Hi Danny,
It's very complicated just to write on here on how to dj, the best bet for a beginner is going to see dj's at bars and clubs just to get an idea of it, even take up a dj course, there are always plenty about you just have to look for it. Also there are books..(which don't do much help) another way is to get a dj video.. they are always about in book and video stores.. try hmv or virgin.
As for requests.. i do take them. sometimes they help me to get idea's on tunes to play.. but most of the time they can be pointless and annoying! At gorgeous which is my main residency we have a 'no shout/request' policy as they dj's there already know what they playing.. and in such places as London in the main clubs, you could never ask the dj to play something.. its just something that is unheard of.
Hope this helps mate.. it depends on where you live for the courses but i would recommend, they are the best way and you never know you may meet some new mates on the way!
